I recently participated in a live RecConnect recruitment leader Learning Hub workshop titled “How to Use Workshops to Propel Your Recruitment Business’.

And this event delivered! Quickly dispelling the myth that workshops are the preserve of hippies.

The brilliant fractional Ops Director Maria Vavoulas steered the two-hour session, navigating us through a sea of scenarios that provisioned four key benefits to the power of workshop working.

  1. Enhanced skill development
  2. Improved team collaboration
  3. Innovation and ideas generation
  4. No more mundane meetings

The event was staged in an upmarket terraced private dining room overlooking London, with attendees representing SME recruitment agencies across the UK. There were bottomless refreshments, boundless energy, and more shared experiences than you can shake a wobbly stick at.

Amongst it all, what stood out most was how well-run workshops encourage transparent communication, harmony, and parity.

After the introductory formalities we each produced our Sailboat thoughts:

  • What was happening to provide the wind in our sails?
  • What was holding us back? The anchor.

We then considered a collection of challenges we each wanted to solve, with the three most pertinent chosen via voting,

By the end of the session, through collaboration, the challenges were solved. We also all had a clear and shared vision of what we wanted to achieve and how we were going to achieve it.

There wasn’t a dominant figure in the room continually pontificating their idea louder than anyone else; nor were there conversations going round and round in irritating circles; we were also devoid or irrelevance or subjects for another day.

The workshop style stuck to relevance, encouraged rounded discussion, and generated creativity.

I am now a workshop advocate.

Workshops provide an effective platform for skills and development, boosting individual performance and enhancing overall competence, leading to improved productivity and efficiency within the business.

Workshops involve group activities, discussions, and problem-solving sessions that encourage teamwork and collaboration. Workshops break silos, improve communication, and foster a sense of unity and shared purpose, leading to better team dynamics and a more cohesive work culture. Workshops create a space for brainstorming, providing a platform to share ideas and perspectives.
