Brighton Recruitment Leader Experience 2026: What Happened When Recruitment Leaders Bonded by the Beach

On Wednesday 20 May, forty recruitment leaders gathered in Brighton for the second stop on RecConnect's 2026 regional event series. Just steps from the sea, the afternoon delivered energy, insight, and practical takeaways throughout.

It began in unconventional style with a high-energy beach breathwork session led by Michelle Flynn, before the group moved indoors for three hours of candid, collaborative sessions designed to spark new thinking and build real momentum.

Brad Shackleton set the tone. His keynote got the room buzzing – raising the energy and reminding everyone that how you show up matters just as much as what you say. Before anyone buys your business, they buy you. Own the room first. The credentials can follow.

Clair Mohamed then challenged the room to look in the mirror. Her session, From Patchy to Predictable, tackled inconsistent performance head on – and her message was direct: inconsistency in a team is almost always a leadership issue before it becomes a people issue. Better performance conversations, clearer ownership, protected priorities. Predictability comes from clarity at the top.

Michelle returned from the beach with her Life Audit module – as session on personal performance that cut through the noise. If your energy, habits, and alignment are off, everything downstream suffers. The Life Audit forces honest reflection on where you are versus where you want to be and builds a practical path between the two.

Kamal Ladwa proved that the most powerful recruitment technology you own is probably already open in your browser. His Tech Tips & Tricks session delivered practical, no-cost ways to get more from the tools already in use – ideas delegates could apply the very next morning.

Andrea Ellard closed the afternoon with business development gold. From winning new customers to strengthening existing relationships – and a memorable conversation around securing non-refundable deposits for both perm and contract – it was the kind of session that leaves people with actions to take, not just notes to file.

For those who stayed on, the conversation continued at The Chilli Pickle for the Recruitment Curry Club, proving that the best chats often surface away from the formalities.

Momentum continues. If you missed Brighton, make sure you're in the room for the next one — Bournemouth on 24th June or see all upcoming RecConnect events here.
